Frequently Asked Questions

What is Electrolysis?

To eliminate hair growth permanently, a minute amount of electricity is gently applied inside the hair follicle. The process destroys the growth cells, inhibiting any future hair growth . This is achieved by inserting a very fine probe in the hair follicle, which is a natural opening of the skin. Unlike laser, which only targets the hairs pigment, electrolysis targets the hair follicle and the growth cells within it. Electrolysis is safe and effective for ALL types and colors of skin and hair, including grey, blond, dark, fuzzy, course and ingrown.

What is the difference between Laser and Electrolysis?

There is a big difference!

Lasers target the pigment of the hair, which will reduce the growth but is only labeled by the FDA as a temporary hair removal method,  because the hair can grow back after time. It is also not advised for use on the face as it can stimulate the soft fuzzy hairs, making them grow in darker and thicker.  Laser is also not effective on light colored hair such as blonde, red or grey and will not work on darker skin.

Electrolysis is 100% permanent and is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. It works by delivering a very small amount of energy into the hair follicle itself, targeting the growth cells and preventing any further hairs from growing. As Electrolysis does not depend on pigment, it will work for any type and color of hair and skin, while being safe enough for the whole body, including the eyebrows.

Is Electrolysis safe?

Yes. For over 125 years, Electrolysis has proven to be safe and effective and there has never been a reported case of a disease transmission from Electrolysis.

At Lisse, we use a brand new disposable, one time use probe for every appointment and all instruments are fully sterilized before each treatment. Cleanliness and safety are of utmost importance to us.

Are treatments painful?

At Lisse Electrolysis we use a state of the art machine, the Apilus xCell, which is extremely comfortable. If you are however particularly sensitive or worried about pain, taking ibuprofen or another pain reliever 30 minutes to 1 hour before your treatment time can help ease any discomfort. You May also apply a topical anesthetic which we can recommend for you during your free consultation.

How long will it take to be hair free?

This is not an overnight process, but it is a permanent one. The length of time that it will take, will vary greatly from person to person, depending on the amount of hair, growth pattern and previous removal methods. This will be discussed during the free consultation as each case is very unique.
